Papyrus
is well known at least by name.
Growing famously on the banks of the Nile it has had many
many uses over the years, most famously in the production
of paper (hence the name). It will grow to 2m+ in the right
conditions! with its statuesque stems and delicate feathery
heads this is one of the most remarked on plants here at
the nursery.
Site:
Conservatory or heated greenhouse. Is best but will grow
in a bright room.
Temp:They
love it warm!. Keep above 7 degrees Celsius over winter
to keep it evergreen. Will take it down to about 2 and grow
back the following spring.
Water:
Water well in the growing season. Best kept in a tray of
water (or the pond) over summer. Over winter take out of
water but do not let it dry out.
Feeding:
Good compost is the key but a monthly feed with a high nitrogen
food will give it a boost.
Tip:
Pot it up when you can for fast and vigorous growth.
