Calathea

At night you may see the strange sight of your calathea mysteriously lifting its leaves until they are almost vertical. This is not a spooky going on as many people have called us have thought, but a clever evolutionary trait that they have developed.

As the light dims in the evening the leaves lift over the top of surrounding plants, in the morning as the light increases they will 'drop' their leaves on top of the surrounding plants all competing for the same light! How clever is that!
