Care Information

  • Site

  • Temperature

Average warmth. It does not like getting cold.

  • Water

Quite regularly in the growing season but leave to dry out slightly first. Rarely over the winter months, really let it dry before giving it a good drink. Benefits from occasional misting.

  • Feeding

A liquid feed every month or so. A weak soloution (1/4 of the strength) can be given over winter every six weeks.

  • Tip

Leaf drop can be due to dry air or overwatering, this generally happens over the winter and is due to watering too frequently.

Ficus lyrata

Fiddle leaf fig

Large strangely shaped glossy leaves (hence the name!) grow in a whorl up the long straight stem of this shapely fig. Branches will grow from the leaf bases in time creating a wonderfully exotic specimen. Unbelievably fashionable its 'the' plant of the decade, so far!

It is not hard but needs a bright spot, near a window (South, East or West). If it is in a dimmer spot let it get even drier over the dark winter months, remember that light and water follow each other through the year.

Give it a little more hands on love over the summer with a good feed every month and a bit more of a drink and it will reward you with leafy beauty.
