Care Information

  • Site

    A dark spot can be really enlivened by this fantastic plant. Be sure to keep it away from open windows, doors and radiators though. 

  • Temperature

    Above 10°C at all times, with faster growth at 18-24°C

  • Water

    It likes to be kept moist and humid, with regular misting giving it a huge boost. During winter, it will not need watering or misting often at all. 

  • Feeding

    A foliage fertiliser, rich in nitrogen, made to a weak dilution, just once or twice a month during growing periods (spring and summer)

As part of the Marantaceae family, this exotic and bright plant is originally from the forest beds of Brazil, but will thrive on a dark shelf here in the UK.

It will tell you if it's unhappy, when its leaves curl up. A regular misting is likely to uncurl the leaves and encourage growth and vibrancy. 

Closely related to the herringbone plant and prayer plant, it looks absolutely fantastic on a shelf or window display with its cousins. 

After time, the stems will produce an abundance of leaves and give a dark spot a real jungle vibe. The 'leopard spots' in dark matte green against the lighter velvety green of the leaves provide a gorgeous contrast.
