Bright indirect light.
Average warmth after flowering.
After flowering keep the well at the centre of the plant topped up over the growing season. In winter keep on the dry side and do not water into the 'well'. Keep humidity up by misting.
A very weak liquid feed every month or so over the growing season.
After flowering (lasts for many months) the main plant may die and be replaced by the offsets produced at the base of the plant which over the next year grow to flowering size.
A very showy OTT bromeliad with a large star shaped 'flowerhead'. The flower spikes are made of bracts that are generally vibrant shades of orange and red. Living among the branches of the south American rainforests bromeliads need very little root space so do not place in too large a pot. If you have one that is not flowering then keep very warm in the spring and water sparingly.
