Care Information

  • Site

    In emulating its natural environment, this plant should be placed in a shady spot with periods of occasional indirect sunlight. A North or West facing window will do fine. It also flourishes in bathrooms.

  • Temperature

    Average warmth. Do not allow the plant to become too cold (below about 13 Celcius) or you may see wilting and drooping.

  • Water

    More crucial than watering is the humidity. The plant will benefit from being misted once every day, even in winter. Or simply place in a nice steamy bathroom.

  • Feeding

    A fern food during the growing season. Follow manufacturer instructions.

  • Tip

    To provide the humidity this plant needs without the effort of everyday misting, place in a tray of wet pebbles.

Also known as the Sword Brake Fern, the stunning variagation in the centre of the feather-shaped leaves is what gives this plant its name.

Originating from Polynesia, it can be found in the humid forests of South East Asia growing in crevices, on trees and in the acidic soil of the forest floor.

The beautiful leaves can be varied in their shades of light green to sparkling white, and can grow up to 40cm long. They are easily distinguished from other ferns not only by their pale colour, but by the sharp 'sword' like formation of the new growth.
