Care Information

  • Site

    As with most ferns, it grows naturally in shady spots with occasional bursts of brightness and humidity.

  • Temperature

    Generally quite warm, without drafts.

  • Water

    Water very well in the growing season but ensure that the pot has adequate drainage. Mist once daily or place in wet pebbles. Does well in bathrooms.

  • Feeding

    A fern or house plant feed, diluted and given once every two or three waterings during late spring and summer.

  • Tip

    Don't worry if it dies back over winter. Don't be tempted to try to water it back to life! It will come back (hopefully!)

A terrific and unusual fern, with leaves that start off as a dark bronze colour and slowly go from red, to dark green, to green. 

Sometimes, the plant can have more than one type of leaf, depending on its gender. 

A moderately tricky plant, suitable for intermediate plant keepers.
