Care Information

  • Site

A spot on the darker side with no direct sunlight except in the early morning or late evening. Think shelf rather than windowsill.

  • Temperature

In their natural environment, they grow in hot climates with plenty of humidity. Keep it above 13°C as much as possible.

  • Water

Average watering. Just water when the top of the soil is dry and mist once or twice a week for optimum plant health.

  • Feeding

A weak plant food during summer, increasing dosage as the ambient temperature rises, will create the maximum growth in this plant.

  • Tip

Sometimes these plants are sensitive to water toxins such as chlorine. To minimise risk if you are in a hard water area, use filtered water or rain water.

Another absolutely fantastic addition to our growing range of Calathea plants known for their characteristic of closing their leaves at night, lending them their name 'prayer plants'.

This particular plant has incredibly striking yet simple bright cream stripes in a zebra formation running from the centre of the leaves to the outside extremities of each new growth. They contrast beautifully against the hard dark green of the main foliage and also present a change in texture when touched.

In terms of care, they are very similar to most calatheas in the modern commercial market and will benefit from high humidity, medium light and no extreme temperatures.
