Care Information

  • Site

A shady spot without strong sunlight. The shape of the plant is best expressed from a hanging position.

  • Temperature

Nice and warm, without sudden drops in temperature. Will thrive in 20C+
Try to avoid exposing the plant to drafts.

  • Water

Generously water the plant. It should never be allowed to dry out completely, and will benefit from misting of the leaves as well. During winter, or when temperatures regularly fall below 16C, the top third of the compost should be dry before watering.

  • Feeding

Fern fertilizer once every two weeks between April and August.

  • Tip

Can be kept outdoors during summer months, but must be returned to a warm environment when night temperatures fall below 12C.

Overwatering during cold months can lead to root rot. In this case, the plant can recover in a warmer environment and you can trim back unsightly leaves.

Closely related to the traditional Boston Fern, the densely packed fronds make for a natural looking example of a great hanging plant. It can also be placed on a shelf or worktop, where the leaves will spread and cascade across the surface.

This is one of the best plants for purifying the air, and is fast growing up to 100cm. It is also commonly known as the Sword Fern, and originates from the prehistoric swamps and forest floors of Africa and Central America.

Does not need re-potting often at all, as it has a very shallow root system. Just mind the cold, as it can be susceptible.
