Choosing a site is pretty crucial to maximising the colouration of the leaves. It likes very well lit areas, with the exception of intense midday sun. The more light it has, the better the colour. Just avoid cold.
It likes it hot and will begin to struggle if left in cold areas. The hotter the better, and it's recommended to keep it above 15 degrees celcius.
When watering, allow cold water to get up to room temperature before fully soaking the plant regularly during summer. In the winter, it will need to be quite dry. In its natural environment, it would experience a hot, wet climate followed by a cool dry one so try to replicate this.
First, water the plant. Then apply a fertilizer once every 14 days for a 3 month duration of the height of summer.
During autumn through winter, the plant will go through a period of growth dormancy. During this time, it is common for some of the leaves to wither. Do not prune them! The plant will absorb the nutrients of value from the dying leaf and at the end of this process, the leaf will be easily plucked.
It's called the Wonder Plant for a reason!
The colours produced by the leaves are almost unmatched. It is mainly orange and red that catch the eye, but the pattern they form is almost unreal in appearance.
Produces inconspicuous flowers in its maturity, at which point it can grow over two metres tall in the home if given enough time and care.
It is also one of the best plants for purifying the air and granting a healthy environment to live in.
The leaves come in a variety of shapes and colour combinations based on its environment and health, giving each one an individual identity.
One of our absolute favourites and a genuine pleasure to grow here at the nursery.
