Care Information

  • Site

Anywhere, but loves darker areas with dappled spots of indirect light. Grows brilliantly in a bathroom.

  • Temperature

Naturally found in warm areas, but will handle the cold better than a lot of plants. Be careful of allowing a freshly watered plant to be exposed to cold to avoid root rot.

  • Water

Will benefit from heavy watering, and it really enjoys regular misting as well. Water sparingly during colder months. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

  • Feeding

As it's such an unfussy plant, there's little need to feed it. Use a heavily diluted feed once or twice during the summer months and avoid altogether during winter.

  • Tip

An absolute trooper. The plant's epiphytic habit and hardy rhizomes allow it to flourish in some unforgiving environments in the wild, and it is hugely versatile as a result.

With soft, tender evergreen leaves sprouting in fanned patterns from the rhizomes, this is a favoured plant for beginners. It is really happy everywhere, as long as it is out of direct midday sunlight.

The plant has no known toxic affects to humans or pets, and it grows quickly during the summer months. They are native to The Americas and in the right light, the leaves have a stunning blue sheen.

Brilliant as a gift for somebody inexperienced with house plants. Can be kept outdoors for the entire summer and clipped back to maintain shape and become bushier.
