One of the most popular houseplants in the British home, livening up spaces for over a century. Low growing, tough and resilient, it will tolerate more neglect than your average plant. With a small amount of care and the right sort of conditions, Chamaedorea eleganswill thrive for many years in almost any room.
Will only grow to approximately three feet high, where it will bush out and produce thicker foliage. Very easy to propagate. Totally safe for pets, and when placed in the self-watering system it can be almost completely forgotten about in terms of care.
Temperature Almost immune to cold, but will thrive in a warm spot. Doesn’t mind dry air too much either, but will prefer higher humidity overall, especially in hot periods.
WateringCan be left alone for long periods without any water, but if looking for maximum growth potential, just water it when the compost feels dry.
Feeding A light, very well diluted plant food once or twice during summer will kick this plant into gear and increase the likelihood of new shoots.
Tips This plant is great for trying out in one of the spots in your home or office where nothing else will ever survive. If you still find it's struggling (sometimes it gets brown tips) give it a good misting to give it a humidity boost.
Light Level Will thrive in a dark position. Totally unfussy, and will not mind a bit of direct sun either.
