Easy foliage houseplant with thin variegated leaves. Keep the humidity up forDracaena marginatato stop leaf drop. A great plant for kitchens.
Specimens vary a lot, and we have some absolutely stunning branched trees that add complexity and sharpness to a modern interior. These trees have broad trunks that are dotted with natural moss and lichen, adding rustic appeal to these tropical beauties.
The brightness of the trunk contrasts beautifully with the dark maroon of the leaves and creates a striking centrepiece for a plant display.
Temperature Average warmth. Do not let it get too cold.
WateringWater when the compost is dry and totally soak the soil. Make sure it’s not sitting in standing water though, especially in winter. If you water too much or too little, you’ll notice the tips of the leaves going brown (underwatering) or black due to the roots rotting (overwatering) and being unable to provide for the plant properly.
Feeding A weak liquid plant food once a month during spring and summer will do this plant favours. Just be mindful not to over feed, as this can cause issues with your plant as it gets overloaded with more nutrients than it can handle.
Tips Every now and then, this plant will produce small flower stems from the top of the foliage heads. These will then die off after a couple of weeks, and can be cut off as they turn brown without harming the plant.
Light Level Darker conditions than most Dragon Trees. Perfect for a tight shady space, or the centre of a room where all sunlight is heavily filtered or reflected. It will do well in bright shade, and will get the most growth in brighter conditions too; just be aware that here it will need more water and the signature darkness that makes it so attractive may turn to a lighter green with time.
