Also known as the Sentry Palm, Howea forsteriana has been a solid staple of our range since we began back in 2005. This hard-as-nails member of the Arecaceae family can take some serious punishment and that makes it a real favourite for offices and back corners. With the self-watering system installed, you can almost forget about it altogether and it will thrive for many years.
Named after Lord Howe, these originated on Lord Howe island off the North East coast of Australia. They can however be found all across the globe, including forests of Kentia Palms as far west as the Mediterranean.
Certainly the plant for you if you want minimal fuss and care, but have a big spot to fill.
Temperature Not sensitive to cold. Will stop growing in colder conditions, and will thrive in warmer temperatures.
WateringCan cope with dryness for very long periods, or manage sitting in water for a while. One of the most forgiving plants we supply.
Feeding Not much need for food, but if you notice it dropping leaves or looking unhappy you can give it a boost with some food. Use palm food, not generic plant food.
Tips These grow absolutely enormous in the wild. With minimal care and a lot of waiting, these can easily reach heights of 4 metres in an interior environment.
Light Level Will grow faster and bushier in high light conditions, but will maintain its size and be perfectly happy in even the darkest corners or in artificial light. The larger the specimen, the more light it will need.
