Very closely related to the Calatheas (and very often mislabelled) this is one of the brightest, boldest houseplants available today. Each leaf is slightly different with the cream, green purple and pink variegation growing in unison with the bright maroon underside. The subject of many, many photographs and modern paintings.
Will tolerate more neglect than a lot of other highly coloured indoor plants. One at the top of our recommendation list, as each plant is vastly different from the next!
Temperature Likes it warm over winter 15-16C 60F if you can. Colder conditions will cause some leaf damage try to keep it on the dry side if this happens.
WateringQuite a bit, loves frequent watering over the growing season (Late spring-Early Autumn) cut back over the winter but never let it get really dry. You will notice the leaves curling if it is going too dry.
Feeding We find little and often works, feed every 2 weeks but at half dilution with a good liquid feed. Never feed during winter when the plant is in dormancy.
Tips Low humidity will cause the leaves to brown at the edges. Give it a spray in the morning to help.
Light Level Will take quite a dark spot. Good for warm kitchens and bathrooms.
